Fish from Iceland are among the healthiest and tastiest in Europe. The cold waters around Iceland are not contaminated with harmful substances, providing ideal conditions for fish growth and development. We cooperate with certified producers who catch and process fish in a gentle and responsible manner. They set out to sea every morning, using longline fishing, and return to port in the afternoon. Here, the fish are processed almost immediately and dispatched on their onward journey.

    When the correct technological process is followed, freezing is a completely gentle and safe method of food preservation.     Wild-Caught Fish

    The protection of marine life (and not only) is important to us, which is why we adhere to sustainable fishing practices in our production. The fish you find in our offer are therefore caught wild by boats that go out to sea in the morning and fish using hooks and lines. These are not boats with large seine nets that decimate all life. Wild fishing is gentle on the fish, sparing it stress before being killed.

    We Freeze Differently

    We freeze fish so that you have meat at home in a quality that is almost indistinguishable from the moment shortly after being caught. Fishing takes place on small fishing boats that go out to sea in the morning and return in the evening, which is why our fish are portioned, packed, and frozen within 24 hours of being caught. This avoids the depletion of marine ecosystems and the wastage of so-called "unsuitable catches", as happens when freezing on large floating factories that stay at sea for days or weeks.

    No Added Water

    We do not need to artificially increase the weight of products by adding water to the muscle tissue of frozen fish. You can recognise such fish by the first taste; as soon as the water is released during thermal processing, you are left with tasteless meat.

    The only (and only acceptable) form of water content in frozen foods is a protective glaze. This is applied to the surface of fish or seafood (e.g., shrimp) and thus protects the fish from freezer burn. This protective layer ranges between 5-20% and must always be stated in the product's ingredients! Therefore, if the fish is not vacuum-packed, water in the form of a protective glaze is actually desirable for maintaining quality.

    I am grateful that Boxxi exists, because it gives me the opportunity to buy fish from a source I trust to be sustainably sourced and healthy, and beneficial to health. I just worry that they might have to close down again. That would be a great shame. I think there are few shops selling fish that care about ecology. Very few.
    Great tuna, great salmon. Both went into sushi, part (the tuna) into tartare. Both dishes were absolutely excellent. And the service in the shop? Perfect, helpful, advised on how to defrost. I will be coming here; I'm glad such shops exist. Big thumbs up.
