About origin

La Perle des Dieux sardines, caught at the best time of the season on the coast of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and the surrounding region in Western France, are the result of know-how developed since 1887. Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is the only port designated as a Site Remarquable du Gout. This designation distinguishes a product of outstanding quality of taste and rich maritime heritage. The sardines are prepared in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in the last sardine cannery in the Vendée department under the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label. This official label, issued under the authority of the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, distinguishes French companies with craft and industrial know-how deemed to be excellent. For 130 years, the sardines have been sorted, sliced and prepared by hand, one by one, within 48 hours of being caught. This process ensures that their taste and nutritional properties are preserved.
